I spent my life from age 7 in the company of many kinds of animals from domestic to exotic, dogs, cats,hamsters, horses, mules, chimpanzees, monkeys,bears, tigers, Mt.lions,coyotes macaws,cockatoos,canaries, toucans (grandmother raised a variety of birds). I loved & cared for these animals (feeding,watering,cleaning etc) trained them if needed (never by abuse). I have 8 years experience as a Veterinary Technician. I worked at a emergency care animal hospital on the overnight(graveyard) shift alone with 1 D.V.M. Being the only Tech on duty meant I was required to be able & know how to perform ALL Technicians tasks. I would check patients in do a preliminary exam ie: take temperature,pulse rate,respiration (labored/shallow/rapid),get mucous membrane color and rate of return, look the pet over for any obvious problems/injury,what owner has noticed in pets behaviour. As per doctors orders: take xrays, give injections, draw blood, urine etc for labs,run labs, place IV catheters, setup bed/cage if overnight,hourly patient monitoring,patient is walked regularly whenever needed meds given etc. Everything from check in until checked out is written in some detail in patients record.
