I've had dogs all my life, also ferrets for about 10 years. Once you show me the pet's routine, you wont have to worry about anything. I can administer meds. if need be. IE. we had a 15 year old pomeranian named Bandit, he had kidney problems, the vet instructed me to give him subcutaneous injections of fluids twice daily. He was fine for about a year, but he finally succumbed to his illness and I was greatful he was'nt in pain. That's the kind of person I am to do whatever it takes to maintain quality of life.
