Hi there my name is Helen. I grew up around animals and love to work with them. I offer talented experience caring for dogs and cats. I also have nearly 15 years in obedience training, following in my mother's footsteps as she was also an obedience trainer. I have a large dog and cat of my own and have done pet sitting for family and friends in the past. In between all of this, I also work part-time from home as a legal assistant for a small law firm in downtown Indianapolis for 13 years. My philosophy of dog training has been that of positive reinforcement, voice commands, hand signals and food motivation to eventually wean to vocal praise only. I am a firm believer that there is no excuse for harsh treatment to get a dog to do what you want. However, there is a distinct difference between being harsh and being firm. Dogs want to please their humans, and it is our job to show them how to be right and make it fun for them. As long as a dog is having fun and enjoying the training, it will continue learning. I use a gentle approach to achieve the dog’s trust. I challenge the dog to learn but I don’t use harsh corrections or tools; it is not how I was taught. The only tools I have used in my dog training experience have been treats, flat collar, choke chain, a 4-foot non-retractable leash, voice commands, hand signals and 30-foot long lead. I believe I can be a great asset to anyone in need of caring, talented pet care and I hope we have the chance to chat soon!
