I hope your pet doesn't smell. I own my own lab/golden retriever mix. Other than that, I have taken care of a variety of animals for weeks at a time. Bunnies, snakes, hamsters, cats, etc. Also, I took a summer camp at SPCA and I am very comfortable with any animal.
