Let's Connect: Although I have no formal training in animal care, I have been around animals all of my life and can say with confidence and delight that my training has been hands-on/self taught. When I was around 10-11, she volunteered at the local AWA (Animal Welfare Association). Even though she had 8 children (I'm #6), she took the time to do what she loved. To be certain adopted animals were being treated with love, shelter and especially for dogs that they have a nice size yard to run in and had a dog house. I would often go along with her on these welfare checks. We had a lot of fun, met some nice folks, and it gave me some alone time with my mom. I remember being in the car with her and there was a dead squirrel in the middle of the road that you could tell had probably just been hit. Mom stopped the car right there, got out and grabbed the squirrel by the tail and pulled it out of the way so that we didn't have to ride by later and see it squished in the road. That made a huge impression on me, one I will carry forever.
