I have a B.S. degree in Equine Science from Louisiana Tech University.  Although I never worked professionally with horses, I had for many years trained my own horses in trail riding, including jumping over any trail obstacles and standing quietly on a picket for overnight camping.  For a number of years I belonged to the Gretna Chief's Posse and rode in 10-12 Mardi Gras parades per year in the New Orleans area.   I have always had a particular affinity to and for cats.  I have always had (been owned by) cats and have made literally a lifelong study of cat behavior and intelligence.  I have volunteered at animal shelters, raising orphaned kittens on the bottle, and to date have successfully raised all my kittens.  I have also successfully rehabilitated fearful street cats, abused cats, and cats which have gone "cage mad."   I have also worked as a zookeeper, mainly with the outside birds (raptors and ratites) but also in the nursery, quarantine, and the zoo kitchen.  I hand-raised three snow leopard cubs on the bottle.  Kittens are kittens, no matter the species! Although I have very minimal experience formally working with veterinarians, my own vet in New Orleans always let me assist with treatment of my own animals.  When I knew what the problem was, he would allow me to simply come pick up whatever medication was required (pills or shots), so I could treat the animal myself at home and avoid the stress of being crated and taken to the vet's.   I also have experience with dogs and birds. While I have never owned a reptile, I have no problems with feeding/ caring for any reptiles. I actually LIKE snakes (and have fond memories of playing some great practical jokes on my mother when I was young using both live and fake snakes).
