For several years I worked as a veterinary assistant at an animal hospital which included nursing care, administering medications and treatments, assisting in surgeries, helping animals pre and post-surgery, and more. While I love, and will happily care for all animals, I noticed that many pet sitters focus mostly on dogs. Cats often need a different approach to really thrive while their people away, and that's my specialty. Often cats need more time to warm up to people, and really need the chance to come to you rather than the other way around. I've found it's important to allow for their independence while also being available, so that they get to choose how and when we interact. That approach helps to lower their stress levels when their family is away and leaves them much happier. Indeed, the most common comment I get from my clients is that their cats seem much happier and relaxed when they return home. Given my experience as a veterinary assistant, I'm also very comfortable administering any medication or other treatment that may be needed.
