Hello possible employers, I am a newly graduated pet lover from the Veterinary Assisting program at Algonquin College. I have grown up with both cats and dogs and therefore I have plenty of experience caring for them. Thanks to my post-secondary education, I have learned to work with many different breeds and behaviours. Whether or not your pet is outgoing and loud or shy and quiet, I can alter my caring methods to make your pet as comfortable with me as possible. Throughout my studies, I have also learned that I have a natural ability to calm animals in distress, which is beneficial when working with rescue animals which tend to be more fearful of people. My program has also taught me basic grooming techniques such as nail trims, removing mats and tangles, and teeth brushing. I am aware many animals are fearful when some techniques, especially nail trims, are performed on them. However, having a dog of my own which was nervous around nail cutters, I have developed methods of making the experience easier for both the dog and myself. Coming from a medical background, I have learned to see early signs of distress, discomfort, allergic reactions, and other possible health complications if ever they were to occur while the pet(s) was under my care. I also have the knowledge to treat minor wounds as well as experience caring for animals who have recently undergone surgery, if that is relevant to your pet sitting needs.
