Hi there, I have 2 male cockatiels who are the absolute loves of my life. My love for them is the only thing that drives me,they are my whole world and then some. Reko is my baby,he is an albino/white face cockatiel(however you choose to reference his specific breed,he is all white to put it simply). Despite having some minor deformities due to the type of improper "care" he was "recieving" before i found him,i promise you he is the cutest little bird youll lay eyes on. He has gimp wing that prevents him from being able to properly fly even when fully feathered,&only 2 of his toes have proper growing nails,the others either grow out deformed or do not grow out at all due to him not having the tips of those toes. My guess is he was a product of forced breeding in which case the birds do not want to raise young together and the male will abuse,mutilate,&eventually all the young if no one intervenes&removes the young. One of the most common aggressions the young will receive is the male biting off the tips of their toes. Because of this he doesnt have a very strong grip. He is typically the more timid of the 2. The other was also rescued from a less than ideal environment,by my boyfriend,just days after i had rescued Reko. Neither of us had told the other about what we had done,so it was quite the surprise when we both showed up with birds lol. He brought home a white face pearl pied cockatiel(all white with gray markings on the wings and tail) and was told it was female. Unlike Reko who would hiss and bite in the very beginning,this bird immediately accepted human contact and scritches,so i named this bird sweetie and sweetie was referenced to as a female. It became second nature to refer to sweetie as her,she,&very often i called "her" mama. So after a few months time had passed and i became undoubtedly sure that "she" was in fact a "he" it was too hard to change over to referencing her as a him. So despite actually being male, she is still addressed as a female. Sweetie is the dominant one,very clearly the alpha and has no problem making this known by sometimes picking on Reko when shes hormonal,sleepy,or wanting attention but not receiving it. Reko,my poor baby, typically just runs,unless he is cornered/ at an edge with no where to run, stand his ground until knocked down. My birds are NEVER caged unless they are going outside. That is the only time they are in their cage unless they so choose to go into their cage,even then the doors are always open. They dont sleep in a cage,so this might be something theyll have to get used to. Im looking for someone to care for them for possibly an extebded period of time. I am currently living with someone &the relationship is toxic for everyone including my birds. We all need to get out of here but until i find somewhere to go permanently where i can also bring them along,i need somewhere for them to go where they will be safe and receive the love and care they deserve. Unfortunately,that place is no longer here which breaks my heart. Its one thing to do things to me, but i draw the line when innocent animals are brought into it. I am just looking into possible places for them to go so i do not have a set time frame or set cost i can/will pay. Everything is up for discussion. I will need to meet everyone that will be around my birds and want to tour the place they will be living. If this is not possible pls do not waste either of our time by contacting cuz that part is non negotiable. There can not be any smoking of any sort within the home/area that they will be living either. I am leary of other pets but if i see that they are trained to behave safely with birds i would be okay with it.
