Pet Sitter Job in Athens, Georgia

Seeking 2 helpers for my multi-species flock of 20 small to medium sized parrots. They range in age from 3 to 37; most of the flock members have been with me for 20 years or more. They are kept as intelligent, energetic, and entertaining companions, not as rescues or for breeding purposes. The flock lives in an indoor aviary/bird room specially constructed for them, in a residential setting, with access to plenty of sunshine and fresh air. Flock members are active and free-flighted in the aviary area daily. Two teammates work together to clean the aviary room and cages daily to maintain a healthy and sanitary environment. The tasks include cleaning of cages, food and water bowls, and aviary room and floors. Detailed description of tasks provided upon request. For these daily late afternoon sessions, two teammates work cooperatively to perform the tasks. Helpers typically assist 2 to 3 afternoons per week on regularly scheduled days each week. (Times: 4:30 to 6:30 PM Mon-Fri; 4PM to 6 PM Sat and Sun.) Ideal team members should have the following background and skills: o Be 20 or older adults, calm with a good sense of humor, and reliable. o Able to quickly learn routine daily cleaning tasks of cages and aviary, required handling of the flock members, and other tasks for a high-quality parrot environment. o Have animal care experience with multiple animals in the same location (such as the Humane Society, shelters, kennels, veterinary experience, wildlife rescue, zoos, in internships, or other relevant animal care experience. o A year or more of college or technical degree is preferable. Curiosity is a must! o Applicants must be willing to work in the aviary while the birds are out of their cages. o Up-to-date Covid vaccination, reliable transportation, and non-smoking are necessary.
