Pet Sitter in New York, New York
I'm an
Individual
Hello,
I recently came across your posting on Craigslist and thought I'd be a great candidate for the job.
I started school as a psychology major (focused on early childhood development) and soon realized that I had a definite passion for film and photography. I'm sure you can guess that my parents were not so pleased with that development. Long story short, I'm trying really hard to become financially independent (i.e. established income and my own housing) so that I can have time to further what-I-hope is a career in film/photography.
As you can tell from my resume, I've spent the last few years trying out a few different areas of employment. Unfortunately, I suffer from depression and have found it extremely difficult to invest myself fully in a job. However, the position you have available would be perfect for me. I am a loving person, great at playing with kids and using imagination, and make lots of jokes. I've learned over the years that one of the best things in life (and for depression) is to work with children -- it's a great way to motivate myself to care about my job, and it's good to be surrounded by such positive vibes.
As a result, I've been working with children for well over a year now.
In addition to being a care attendant to an autistic teen, I've also been a regular babysitter for an English/Dutch family for the better part of a year. I can't tell you how many times I had to level with the rascals (aged 11 and 7), help them work through when they feel angry, and help explain to them why mom and dad have certain rules. While the boys are wonderful and very mature for their ages, I've also babysat a few wild children in the past. While I'm happy I no longer regularly babysit them, I learned how to deal with the giant meltdowns kids throw over just-about-anything, and how to rapidly adapt to each individual child's needs. I remember well the feeling of being bullied by adults when I was younger, and care deeply about treating children as complex people rather than nuisances.
As far as scheduling abilities, I have experience planning pick-ups and and subway routes. I also spent the better part of my childhood in New York City, so I know very well what sorts of activities are kid-friendly.
I'm happy to provide you with the English/Dutch family's contact information if you would like references; the skills I use to babysit are very close to the skills I would use as a childcare specialist for your family.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or requests for additional information.
Best, Nick
