First, Google Casa McKibben and then check our reviews. THE very best home-based dog boading host in the Valley. Big dogs, small dogs, seniors and puppies. We love them all!! Mark and Carol are "work at home" dog lovers with a secure, safe and very comfortable home environment. We've had extensive experience with puppies, seniors, giant dogs, tiny dogs and everything in between. We know how to provide support for "special-needs" dogs with health issues that require medications (oral or injections) or just some extra help getting around. We have had deaf dogs and two of the dogs that have lived here in the past were completely blind. Three permanent "canine kids" live at Casa McKibben ... Neo, Binks and Princess Rose. Neo is a 118-pound Labradoodle "gentle giant". He has worked as a certified Therapy Dog at Northridge Hospital, Children's Hospital (CHLA) and Shriners Childrens Hospital. Binks is an 85-pound Labrador that we rescued off the street in Pacoima in 2006 after he barely avoided being hit by a car. Neo and Binks both love to swim and play with other dogs. Princess Rose is a very sweet, 25lb "Min-Pin" mix (also a rescue) that gets along with everyone. She became part of our family in May, 2013, when Mark's mom came to live with us from Indiana. In the past, we've had at many as 5 dogs living here simultaneously (not counting the 10 lab puppies born here in 1997). As you can see from the pictures, Casa McKibben has a very nice pool (for those avid swimmers) and a securely-enclosed backyard that is puppy-safe and closely-monitored. Mark specializes in teaching dogs how to swim and enjoy the pool. He can do this for your dog if you'd like. The pups hang indoors when they aren't out playing, but a doggy-door makes it easy for them to go outside whenever desired. The food at Casa McKibben is very good! There are treats during the day including all natural peanut butter snack cookies that we get through Trader Joes. Each Sunday morning, we cook up fresh bacon for our canine buddies as a very special "Bacon Sunday" tradition. Our home is considered a favorite hang-out for all of the neighbor's dogs. Neo's brother, Ranger, lives across the street. Ranger and his step-sister, Nellie, come over all the time. You can bring your own food for your dog. As an option, we feed Kahoot's premium brand Wild-Caught Salmon and Sweet Potato (gluten free and no grains whatsoever) for an extra charge of $2/day. This premium food is supplemented with freshly-cooked chicken or beef meatballs and we add tuna to break the meal routine several times a week. Our dogs LOVE tuna and always come running when they hear the electric can opener! Mark has been training countless dogs for more than 3 decades and volunteers his time as a Therapy dog-handler at Northridge Hospital (Neo is a certified Therapy Dog). Mark and Carol even foster dogs rescued from the mean streets of LA and high- shelters in the area ... providing a bridge to their "forever" homes. Mark volunteers his training time to help socialize dogs on behalf of LA Animal Rescue as well. Fine-tuning interactive social skills, along with some basic obedience training, is automatically included in every boarding experience at Casa McKibben. Our highly-skilled canine "teacher's-" (Neo and Binks) provide excellent examples for all our guests ... making the learning experience both fun and rewarding. Free membership in Club Casa McKibben is automatically included for all of our guests. We have regular play dates (usually Wednesday and/or Saturday afternoons) where we invite you and your pup to hang out with us and enjoy the pool deck for some safe, supervised doggy playtime fun. These play dates are always free of charge and have become very popular. We often have 10 to 12 dogs here at one time - swimming, chasing toys, or just enjoying each other. These supervised play dates help all our guest dogs maintain their social skills and they are MUCH safer than taking your dog to a public dog park. Give us a try! Request a no-charge MEET & GREET to check us out! Your pup will have a great time at Casa McKibben and you'll be able to relax on your trip knowing your pup is safe and happy. You won't be disappointed!
