Hi! My name is Brittany! I'm a service dog trainer with over three years of professional experience in the field and 18 guide dogs actively working across Canada for clients who are blind or visually impaired. Prior to that, I raised two service-dogs-in-training on a volunteer basis (one who went on to become a companion for a child with autism and one facility dog working in a college setting in the GTA), and I have successfully trained a pet dog in scent detection (bedbugs specifically). I have experience handling many different medium and large breed dogs (particularly Labs, Goldens, Flat-Coats, Poodles/Doodles, etc.) with some experience and knowledge of both giant and small breeds as well. I also have experience providing care for senior and special needs dogs (deaf, blind, severely arthritic requiring slings and aid to stand, mild to moderate incontinence, oral medication, etc.) I have volunteered as an assistant to the head trainer during a six-week set of obedience classes for repeat pet dogs as well as young puppy classes, and I have also handled my own pet dog at both obedience and agility classes several years ago. I received my first Pet First Aid Certification in September 2012 and re-certified in October 2017. Although I don't currently have my own dog (my working dogs fill the void and sometimes come home with me when I want company -- and could also come home with me if your pooch is in need of a doggy companion!), I am your typical crazy dog lady with extensive dog-related interests. I have previously enjoyed obedience and agility classes as well as scent work, and I am interested in Therapy Work, Carting, Search & Rescue, and Schutzhund for any possible future pups, if they were so inclined. From childhood to present, I am often called upon by a multitude of family, friends, and neighbours to care for their pets (cats, dogs, and the odd "Fish #4") while they are away on vacation and I am always happy to walk their dogs whenever they request. I am typically available evenings and weekends. However, my job does allow me to be somewhat flexible, so please just ask and I will do my best to accommodate you and your furry friend! Also, please note that although I have a large-sized crate set up in my home for any visiting dogs (including a divider if your dog is on the smaller side), it is not large enough for Giant breeds. If you have a Giant breed dog who comes to stay with me and should be crated, you will need to provide the crate for the duration of your dog's stay.
