Description: Hi there, my name is Monika. I'm searching for dog walking opportunities in San Antonio, preferably near the Helotes and Leon Valley areas. My goal is to get your fur baby out for some fresh air and exercise. I also provide pet sitting and/or drop in services. Description of Skills: I have experience with feeding, training dogs in basic commands & obedience, providing play time, mental stimulation, and walking on well known trails. I also worked at a vet clinic and have some experience with administering medicine if needed. I am willing to travel a bit so if you aren't in Helotes or Leon Valley still feel free to reach out and see if I am available (: Regarding previous experience, I have spent time with and around dogs and cats my whole life. I grew up with a little cockapoo, walked my neighbors dogs as my first job when I was 9, house sat for neighbors and family into my teen years, and have been a foster for dogs since 2018. If I see a dog on the street I take them home and help them find their humans. Doing this is actually what led me to foster, and then training. I found a stray dog and I couldn't find her owner after a couple weeks so a family friend suggested I set her up with Helotes Humane Society. I went in there and ended up signing up to foster her myself! It took a few months but she finally found her forever home in May of 2019 and is beyond happy as an emotional support dog with a happy couple. Since then I have found, cleaned, and re-united 3 other dogs with their owners. I also unofficially fostered a dog that followed me home in September 2019. He was timid and nervous but was following me, so I ran to keep his interest and he came the remaining 6 blocks to my porch and into the backyard. He was thin, even at 47 pounds, and had fleas pretty bad. My roommate was not crazy about bringing a strange animal into our home but I didn't give her much choice and that goofy boy won her over pretty quick. I used a soothing flea and tick shampoo and he came out of that bathroom bouncing off the walls! I didn't expect that kind of energy from him as shy as he seemed to be but he was clean now, with a full tummy and his own bed, blanky, and half a dozen toys to pounce on. He pounced like a cat but with none of the coordination and it was adorable. After about 6 days I located his owner. They hadn't been looking for him, saying he got out all the time and that they didn't want him. So I offered to take him and they agreed, handed over his adoption papers and that was done. I got a collar with tags immediately and I started teaching him basic commands, especially stay with his history of bolting. He had them down within a week! He ate well and got up to 52 pounds after a few weeks, was great with other dogs, loved to snuggle, loved his walks on O.P. Schnabel Trail, and was given a thumbs up from Banfield Pet Hospital. So, I was about to start looking for his forever home, taking him to dog parks with an adopt me bandana and posting all about him online, when my roommate decided she just could not let go of him❤. He is now spoiled to bits and loving it. Since then i have fostered an additional 14 dogs that he has been a role model to.
