My family always had dogs and I grew up caring for them. When I left home I rescued dogs and cats. I have always had a gift with animals. I also have equine care experience. I managed a horse ranch for 3.5 years, caring for the ranch and animals, with three horses, four dogs (two were mine) and three cats. I learned how to ride a horse when I was six, from my uncle the sulky racer. I started working at stables at 16, as soon as I could drive. I would love to horse and pet sit to give you a vacation break! For two and a half years I cared for my senior, diabetic yellow lab. She required at least two shots of insulin a day and was blind for the last two years of her life. I have taught two of my cats to walk on a leash and enjoy the car. I taught a friend's hunting dog to accept our two cats while we stayed with her for two months. She was also very foot shy, due to pre-rescue abuse. By the time I left she was most comfortable under my feet near the couch. I administered eye medication for recurring infections and hoof care to a senior horse for several years. I have put on both fly masks and horse blankets, fed, watered, turned out and taken in many horses. My friend runs a rescue in Illinois where she has offered a home to both domestic and exotic animals. Some have been abused, discarded or just purchased by unknowing citizens thinking a kangaroo, zebra, camel or monkey would make a great pet for their child. After moving away I've donated my online, fundraising talents, but I've spent a great deal of time visiting with the shelter residents. I am extremely loving, but always conscious of behavior, always in control as pack leader. If your pup would like to play with our spayed, fun-loving, mid-sized rescue, I'd love to bring him along.
