I am a mature woman (53) who is a life-long animal lover. I am physically strong and so can handle dogs medium-large dogs and pullers. I enjoy the company of pets, particularly dogs. I had a black retriever for many years and miss him terribly. Right now my husband and I live where they are not super keen on dogs and where there is little to no backyard space. Therefore, we'd like to wait until we move to a place with a large yard before getting another dog. In the meantime I would love to help you out with your pup. I've always been interested in animals and have served as an animal-whisperer-type to various family's pets. My nieces and nephews have had everything from hamsters that got loose, to birds with stuffy noses or who are about to lay an egg and not acting/feeling right, to dogs who swallowed something they shouldn't have, to tiny kittens that won't urinate. In the past they've called me, I drop what I'm doing and go to them to check their furry babies to see if I can help or at minimum advise if it seems an issue for a Veterinarian. I've been pretty successful in soothing the pet's discomfort when a vet visit wasn't eminent. Presently I do have neighbors with dogs. We live in a small, quiet development where its easy to let your guard down and many times the neighbors dogs have seized those opportunities to make a break for it (my dog was a BIG TIME opportunist!). When I see a loose dog I ALWAYS stop, call the dog over, hold them to see if an owner is not far behind or check for contact information or chip information. I just seem to have a knack with dogs; 9 times out of 10 I call them and they happily bound toward me! As a dog owner, you may have realized by now how quickly they size-up people; I guess I check out on their radar because they seem to sense that I like them and have no qualms about coming to me. I think they know I enjoy their company and playing with them (fetch, etc.) and that I'm a pushover when they roll on their backs and ask for belly rubs . .. . every time! I love it! I've also volunteered at animal shelters in NJ and walked their dogs that are up for adoption (and wanted to take every last one of them home with me!). I'm familiar with walking a dog while heeling, and with many different types of collars, harnesses and leashes. We currently have two rescue cats at home and, being rescues, they've required different medications from time to time, so I can successfully administer medication if needed. Whether on medication or not, your pet will be safe and happy with me.
