Hello dog owners of North and West Vancouver! Do you have trouble finding time to provide the correct amount of exercise and training for your dog? Do you have a new puppy or older dog that would benefit from obedience training? Is your dog at home for the majority of the day while you tend to your busy schedule? Well, look no further! Services I am providing a unique service available for all Northshore dog owners. Unlike many doggy daycare or dog walking companies, I offer both walking and training services simultaneously. I can provide much needed exercise for your pup, and also stimulate him/her mentally, slowly transforming your pooch into a well-behaved doggy! I am also offering in-home boarding and pet-sitting services upon request. Benefits of Using One-On-One Training Method Your dog and I will work one on one, making sure he/she gets all of the attention they need to succeed. Unlike working within an obedience class, your dog will receive specialized training, designed specifically to fit their own unique needs. I will create an obedience plan structured around your dogs training needs. If you are interested in my services mainly because of the exercise aspect, there will be an added benefit of obedience training. Introduction to Your Dog - Determining Training Needs Before I begin working with your pet, it would be ideal to have a short meeting with you, (the primary owner) and your dog so that we can talk through the following: Your dogs needs - to identify areas which need work. Previous training experience - to determine commands which your dog already knows and to establish the "obedience level" that your dog is currently on. What you and your dog would like to gain from this experience. If you are not able to meet in person for a brief chat, this information can be shared through email. It would be great to begin creating an obedience plan structured specifically around your dogs needs as soon as possible so we can get to work! Updating The Owner on Puppy's Progress I do believe very strongly that the owner should be involved with the training process. I would like to update the primary owner of the dog on he/she's progress, and other information that I believe is important for the owner to hear. I also would love to demonstrate how to use hand signals for new commands learned, and to update you on all the new information your pup has learnt that day! I would love to schedule regular 15 - 30 minute sessions to speak with the primary owner during training. If this is not possible, or the owner is not interested in participating in the in-person sessions this is also acceptable. I will be writing a report immediately following each training session to keep the owners updated on their pup's progress. I can either deliver a hard copy or send you an email! What will your dog be learning? Once we have determined the "obedience level" of your pup, we can get to work. There will be two obedience levels: Beginner and Intermediate. Beginner Level Obedience Training What lessons will be the main focus within the Beginner Level Obedience Training? In a general sense, we will cover the basics, along with any special requests made by the dog's owner. A few of these lessons may include: - Proper walking on leash (On Leash Healing) - Come, Sit, Stay, Down - Introduction to socialization Unfortunately I do not teach potty training, although I can give you some great tips on how to housebreak your pet. Intermediate Level Obedience Training What lessons will be the main focus within the Intermediate Level Obedience Training? Once your dog has covered the basics, we can begin to take things to the next level. The teachings can become more advanced, and usually the dog is more eager to learn at this point. We can begin to teach more creative commands that can be a lot of fun for both the dog and the owner. Once again, the owner may always make specific requests. In general the Intermediate Level Obedience Training will focus on a few of the following lessons: - Off Leash Healing - Drop it - Leave it - Socialization - Creative Tricks such as: "Bang", Spin, Shake A Paw, Look, Touch, and many more. Socialization I have a one year old Black Labrador Retriever who is very advanced with obedience training, and is great with other dogs. If you are interested in having your dog practice proper socialization, or simply being around/playing with another dog, this may be a helpful lesson for your pup. Details Before we begin our first session, I will determine a safe area within walking distance of the owners residence where productive obedience training can take place. I will arrive at the owner's residence, and according to specific instructions given to me at a previous date by the owner, I will enter the house or backyard and retrieve the dog. I will make sure the dog is "geared up" (preferably wearing a front-clip body harness) and ready to begin our walk/training session. The training session will include walking around the neighbourhood while we practice proper leash etiquette and much more. We will practice the appropriate lesson for that day at our safe training location, and then begin our walk back to the house. I will leave the dog where I was previously instructed to, and if the owners are not home I will make sure the dog has a full water dish. Depending on whether the owners have requested a written report or a report in the form of an email, I will complete the report and ensure the owners receive it the same day of obedience training. Payment / Fees - Length of sessions Typical sessions will cost $20, and will be 1 hour and 30 minutes in length, allowing enough time for training and exercise. Requests for longer/shorter sessions can be made as well. About Me I am a 22 year old female who has developed a great passion and talent for training dogs. Throughout my life I have been fortunate enough to have experience interacting with many different breeds, growing up surrounded by dogs since I was a young child. I currently own a one-year-old English Labrador Retriever, and have learnt a great deal from her in such a short amount of time. I began learning about canine obedience long before my dog came into my life. My father handed me three training books to start learning, my favourite of which was "The Monks of New Skete", which I would recommend to any dog owner. I recently completed training to become a professional dog walker with "Discover Dogs", a Vancouver based dog walking and training company. I have completed multiple obedience courses with my personal dog, and she was always the star of the show! Throughout the process of raising my Labrador, I have realized that I have an interest in training canines, that I am quite talented in working with them, and that I am eager to keep learning!
