Pet Sitter Job in Santa Barbara, California

I'm an
Individual
Hi, future pet sitter, thank you, thank you, thank you for taking care of our plant and fur-children! We know they appreciate it, and we appreciate your care, too. We're Tom and Rachael Quisel and we hope you have a wonderful and relaxing time in Santa Barbara. Living in this beautiful town feeds our soul, and we hope it will nourish you, too. Care for Forest (mostly black, short hair) & Clover (tuxedo, medium hair) Both are three years old and biological brothers who are bonded. Note: Please check to see if kitty's food (or more rarely treats or care items) have arrived via Amazon box. FEEDING & DRINKING Their wet food is stored next to their food bowls in the living room. They have dry food dispatched by the automatic feeder in the early AM to prevent early morning meowing for food. Clover & Forest’s Diet 1. Morning (7-8amish) Feed each of them ½ can of 3 ounce wet food in the AM. 2. Evening (between 5 and 7pm) Feed each of them ½ can of 3 ounce wet food. Water Please drain, clean, and refill the water bowl/fountain at least once per week. Kitty Play Forest (short hair) really enjoys to be brushed with the kitty brush but only Clover (long hair) needs to be brushed a few times a week to avoid getting hairballs. The kitties like to cuddle up with you while you’re sitting/lying down. Forest is a bit shy at first, but he’ll come around. They like to play with the lazer in the car treat drawer in kitchen (please avoid getting the lazer in their eyes) and fishing rod, especially in the morning and evenings (found in cat toy bin in second bedroom) The kitties like to watch “birds for cats” on YouTube. Please put it on in the morning for them if you’re going to be gone all day. If you need to pick them up, that’s fine, but leading them with the laser or cat-fish toy is always a good way to get them to move. Also, you can use the clicker to get them to come to you (just make sure to give them a treat). They enjoy it when you spray their soft toys with catnip spray—>only once a week or so as they can develop tolerance to it over time. Kitty Behavior Quirks Clover will jump on your shoulder when you are eating food. I suggest putting him in a room while you eat or wearing a jacket, hehe If you feel comfortable doing so, please take Clover for walks in the evenings around the apartment complex with his harness. If he's freaked out and starts running, I let go of his leash and let him run back to the apartment door. Otherwise, I pick him up and take him in because, yeah, he usually won't ask to go inside on his own. Careful with carrying him, as he likes to jump out of your arms. Forest likes to knead and might put his paws on your legs when he wants your attention. It can be a bit painful, so I try to wear thick pants, hah. Forest might pee on clean piles of laundry left out on the couch/floor. If you want to stop either of the cats from doing something, shake their water bottle (in the kitty drawer in the office/second bedroom). If this doesn’t work, spray the air over their head/them with water from the bottle. If you want the kitties to come to you, use the clicker—please hold the treat in your fist, get down to their level, and ask them to sit and shake for treats. They likely won’t take the treat out of your hand until they get to know you, so please place it on the floor. Forest may scratch at the bedroom door at night or meow if the door is closed—he likes to sleep in bed with me. If you don’t want to sleep with him (that’s fine) but I recommend wearing foam ear plugs. It may also be worth flipping on the air canister by the door to deter them from crying/scratching at the front door or bedroom door at night—when they walk past it, it will send out a puff of air that deters the cats. The canister can be found in the cat care drawer. Just please remember to turn it off in the AM b/c it seriously freaks them out. Kitty’s Toilet I will go over this in person or via Facetime. We would like to have daily of photos and regular updates of Forest and Clover so this is a good role for someone who enjoys taking photos and sending them to us. All best, Rachael & Tom
